Gerard Claret

Gerard Claret is one of the founders of the school. He was born in Andorra in 1951. Since the beginning of his professional activity, more than fifty years ago, he has become known for his double facet of interpreter and pedagogue.

Winner of the Belgian Radio and Television Tenuto competition, medalist of the Maria Canals International Competition in Barcelona, he has performed with orchestras from Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, the former Czechoslovakia, Turkey, Russia and Japan. It has been directed by, among others, Antoni Ros Marbà, Edmon Colomer, Josep Pons, Jacques Mercier, Rodolf Barshai, Peter Maag, Veronika Dudarova, Yehudi Menuhin, Sergio Comissiona, Ignacio Yepes and Marzio Conti. He has recorded works by Bach for violin.

He is the founder of the Barcelona Music School, the Vic International Music Course and the Barcelona Trio, with whom he has recorded works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Dvorák. From 2000 to 2005 he was director of the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC). 

 

He is artistic director of the Narciso Yepes Festival in Ordino, since its creation, and of the Crèdit Andorrà Foundation (Principality of Andorra).

In 1993, he began a professional career as concertmaster director of the National Classical Orchestra of Andorra (ONCA). In September 2000, he founded the National Youth Chamber Orchestra of Andorra (Jonca), which, like the ONCA, depends on the ONCA Foundation. From 2007 to 2012, he was tutor in the music area of Trivium, performing arts center in Sant Julià de Lòria.

In 1998 he was awarded the Cross of Sant Jordi by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

In 2010, he was appointed Andorra's Unicef National Ambassador.
