Alex Garrobé

He gives concerts and recitals regularly in more than forty countries, performing in venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Auditori de Radio France in Paris, the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona, the Lutowslasky Auditorium in Warsaw or the XXI Century Auditorium in Beijing.

 

First prizes at the 5th International Infanta Cristina Guitar Competition (Fundación Guerrero 1989) and at the Permanent National Competition organized by JJ.MM. (1988).

He frequently collaborates with different orchestras, performing the main concerts of the guitar repertoire. Among others, he has performed as a soloist with formations such as the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Oman Symphony Orchestra, the Wuttembergische Philarmonie, the Balearic Symphony, the Barcelona and National Symphony Orchestras of Catalonia, the Symphony Orchestra of Region of Murcia, the Simfònica del Vallés, the Chamber Orchestra of the Palau de la Música Catalana, the National Chamber Orchestra of Andorra, the Barcelona 216 Instrumental Group, the Orchestra of the National Conservatory of Peace (Bolivia), the Lebanese National Symphony Orchestra, the Tampere Chamber Orchestra (Finland), the Lublin Symphony (Poland), the Filarmonia das Beiras (Portugal) or the Medellín Symphony Orchestra (Colombia).

He has made eight recordings with the labels Harmonia Mundi, Naxos, Columna Música, Ópera Tres JS Records. His interest in contemporary music has led him to premiere several concerts for guitar, such as the Mare Nostrum Concert (1999) by Salvador Brotons, ...di un soffio d'aura (2010) for guitar and orchestra Agustí Charles or Petrer's Concerto (2014) by Simone Iannarelli. Composers such as Manuel García Morante, Marco Smaili, Gerard Drozd and Stein Eide have also dedicated their works to him.

Doctor in Art History and Musicology from the UAB, he is currently a teacher of guitar and chamber music at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC).

 

He has been a professor at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco (Musikene) and the Superior Conservatory of the Balearic Islands. He is also regularly invited to offer master classes and conferences in various music centers in Germany, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia (Eafit), Croatia, Denmark, Slovenia, Spain, the United States, Finland (Sibelius Academy), France, Holland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Norway (National Conservatory), Oman, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom (London Guildhall School), Russia, Sweden (Stockholm Royal Conservatory), Chile and China (National Conservatory, Beijing).
