Albert Attenelle

piano

Master Albert Febrer i Març 2023

Poster Course 22-23

Albert Attenelle is one of the founders of the school and is the current director. He is also a professor at the Liceu Superior Conservatory. He was born in Barcelona, showing his talent for music at an early age. He gave his first recital in his hometown at the age of six. The great pedagogue Frank Marshall, who attended the concert, took charge from that moment onwards of Attenelle's piano training, transferring to him over the years, the legacy of the Catalan piano school, which it goes back to Joaquín Malalts, Ricard Viñes and Albéniz, passing through Granados, and Marshall himself.

His presentation as a soloist with the orchestras of Barcelona and Bilbao in 1957, as well as the prizes obtained in several international competitions in Brussels (Queen Elisabeth), Lisbon (Vianna da Motta) and Rio de Janeiro, among others place him in the forefront of the current pianistic scene of his generation, developing his career both as a soloist and as a chamber musician throughout Europe, America and Japan.

His career as a soloist and chamber music performer has taken place in Europe, America, Australia, the Middle East and Japan. He has performed, as a soloist with large orchestras, a wide number of concerts; from Bach to contemporaries, including Beethoven, Chopin, Franck, Schumann, Ravel, Stravinsky, Poulenc, Saint-Saens, Prokofiev, Bártók, etc.

Possessor of a large repertoire, which includes all styles, he has maintained a special interest in the composers of the 20th century, a fact that has led him to offer the first audition of F.Mompou's Música Callada, and, or repeatedly interpret the Concerts for piano and orchestra by Luis de Pablo, Robert Gerhard or Xavier Motsalvatge, among others.

His prolonged dedication to chamber music has allowed him to embrace the entirety of piano trios, quartets and quintets by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms or other works by Dvórak, Ravel, Shostakovich, Messiaen, Guinjoan, JL Turina, Casablancas, sprouts, Granados, etc...

A large number of pianists who perform and teach in our country are the result of his pedagogical work at the head of the Escola de Música de Barcelona, of which he is founder and director, or as a teacher at the Conservatorio Superior del Liceu de Barcelona . Periodically he is part of the jury of international piano competitions.

Of his recent discography, the Concerts for piano and orchestra by Luis de Pablo or Robert Gerhard stand out, apart from the volumes dedicated to Déodat de Séverac and Joaquin Nin-Cumell. Regarding chamber music, and as a member of the Trio de Barcelona, Beethoven's Triple Concert, and the Trios of Mendelsohn and Dvórak (Harmonia Mundi). He has also just published the recording of the Sonatas for violin and piano by Pau Casals and Gaspar Cassadó in collaboration with Agustín Leon-Ara (Columna Música), and the Sonatas for violin and piano, viola and pinao, and cello and piano by Lluís Benejam (ASV), as well as an edition of the works of Frederic Mompou (EMI), which include the"Variations on a Theme by Chopin"(work that premiered in Madrid in 1964). His recordings of Iberia and La Vega by I. Albéniz, Goyescas by Granados and a double CD dedicated to piano music by Frederic Mompou should also be highlighted.
